Hey, I'm Kushagra! Welcome to the AtlasMoth "Court Quest: Judge the Case 2" edition.
With summer in full swing, I decided to take a break and chase some adventure—currently writing this from a hot air balloon in Turkey, soaking in the views and reflecting on how this year’s been.
In today’s edition, I’m doing the same kind of reflection. One of my client’s products just went live, and I want to spill the tea on how it all went down—what the product team nailed.
Last Month's Rollout: A Gen Z Tech Tale🛠️
Hey fam, let me spill some tea on a project I wrapped up last month. So, one of my go-to moves in business is helping companies level up with digital tools and a sprinkle of gamification.
This time, the challenge was real: I had to drag a deep-tech and engineering giant out of the Stone Age (aka paperwork and endless drawing) into the digital world.
The Problem: Old School to Cool🌊
Picture this: my client’s in the maritime game, setting up windmills and monopiles out in the ocean. It’s a long and pricey gig—from getting the contract to actual installation, it’s like watching paint dry.
So, the million-dollar question was: How do we cut the time and cost while keeping it smooth for both office engineers and the crew out at sea?
The Struggle: Math Gone Wild📉
If you've ever done math by hand, you know it’s a grind. Now, imagine doing that while the ocean’s throwing tantrums. Engineers are out there crunching numbers, but with every wave and gust, the chances of a slip-up skyrocket.
It’s not that they’re clueless; they know their stuff. But when you're drowning in data, the odds of messing up rise.
Think of it like this: every wave or wind shift messes with the math. And when you're scribbling numbers by hand, it’s easy to miss a beat.
These guys need a tool that can do the math quick and clean, so they can stay focused on the job.
Reality Check: Life on the Sea🌪️
Let’s take a sec to step into the boots of those who brave the offshore windmill scene. Time, tools, and weather can make or break a day. It’s a world where one wrong move can mess up the whole gig.
The Pushback: Automation Anxiety🧑💻
Not everyone was stoked about this digital shift. Some were worried it’d cut jobs, making people obsolete. But here’s the flip side: cutting down the workforce here means we can upskill them to manage the software or focus on other key tasks.
Design Goals: From Contracts to 3D Magic🎯
First up, we had to simplify the process—from bagging an installation contract (hello, PDFs) to turning them into slick 3D layouts.
The demand was wild—hundreds of options on one screen. Cue design dilemmas and some heavy accessibility decisions. But we nailed it.
Feedback Loop: Testing the Waters🔄
When it came to testing, things got sticky. More thinking, less doing—ouch. But we bounced back quick, tracking analytics, usability tests, and pixel-perfect moves to figure out where users were getting stuck. Agile for the win!
Key Takeaway: Simple Wins⏳
If there’s one thing to remember, it’s this: Simple saves time and cuts errors. Out at sea, every second counts.
A tool that does the math, shows you the plan in a snap, and keeps you linked with the team—even when the Wi-Fi ghosts you—isn’t just nice; it’s a game-changer.
Final Product: SaaS for the Win🚀
So, what did we end up with? A SaaS tool that turns contract PDFs into 3D visuals and does the math for you. All you gotta do is check and validate each step. Boom—game changed!
Here's how the metrics shaped up:
Time saved: Automation slashed time by 40%.⏰
Improved user experience: Faster reaction times while sticking to design guidelines.⚡
Cost savings: Reduced costs by 20%.💰
5 Key Learnings from the Design Process
1. 🤖Automation is a Game-Changer: By automating key processes, we slashed time by 40%. This shows the massive impact automation can have, especially in complex and time-intensive industries.🤖
2. 💡Streamlined User Experience is Essential: We learned that speeding up the user experience while sticking to design guidelines can significantly improve reaction time. A smooth, linear experience is key to keeping users engaged and efficient.
3. 🎯Cost Efficiency Follows Smart Design: By optimizing the workflow and cutting out unnecessary steps, we managed to save 20% in costs. This reinforces the importance of strategic design in driving down expenses.
4. 🌍Designing for Accessibility Pays Off: Tackling accessibility head-on, even with heavy design demands, proved crucial. It’s not just about meeting guidelines; it’s about making sure the product is usable for everyone, in every condition.
5. 🔄Agile Feedback Loops Drive Success: Our ability to quickly respond to user feedback and tweak the design kept the project on track. This agile approach ensures the final product truly meets the needs of its users.
