Issue 35: New to design? Here's what you gotta know!

8-hour Meta Adventure

Hey guys, it’s Kushagra! Glad you’re here at AtlasMoth. Last month was nuts—flew to three countries, took in so much, and learned loads on how people see things(I mean product & design 🤪).

Design is all about how users see what you made, and that’s what’s up in this drop. We’ll dig into the low-key power of typography, logos, and visuals—how these things pull people in and make them stay. Let’s dive in!

Today’s all about the feels—how to make your brand hit right, even if you’re not a ‘pro’ at this design stuff. Let’s go step by step on how to give your look a vibe that sticks:

Grow Your ‘Eye’ for Design (Yep, Even if You’re Not a Pro)

You don’t need a big skill set to get good taste. The trick? Look. Take time to peep fonts, logos, brand stuff. Zoom in on each bit—like the space between words, the width of each line, and how letters can mess with your mind. The more you scope, the more it clicks for you.

Example: Look at Apple. Their type? It’s clean, calm, and cool—just like their whole deal. No fuss, no mess. Just sleek. They don’t shout, but they get in your head.

Flash Won't Save You if Your Product Has No Soul

Good looks only go so far. If your brand’s all show, it won’t stick. First, ask: what’s the point? Why should folks care? Once you know that, make sure all the look and feel—your logo, colors, pics—lines up with this one truth. When it all clicks as one, folks feel it, and they’re in.

Example: Think of Spotify. Their vibe’s green and cool, but they don’t stop there. They’re all about your sound. Every part—the logo, colors, even app flow—gives off that vibe of being in tune with you.

Fonts Bring Feels

Fonts? They’re more than letters—they tell a story. Each style has a feel. Try bold, light, soft, or strong types and see how each lands. Some fonts say “chill,” some say “bold,” some say “class.” Pick the one that vibes with your story.

Example: Check out Coca-Cola. That swoosh and swirl? It feels like good times, like a twist of fun. Their font vibes with the brand’s ‘happy’ feel, so the look sticks with you.

A strong brand isn’t just about looks—it’s about feelings. Nail the vibe, stay true to the core, and make sure every part of your design clicks with the story you’re telling.
