Now it’s your turn to see how much more profit you can keep.
Hey, it’s Kushagra. Welcome to this week’s AtlasMoth drop.
Fastly has just released a survey of 800 developers, and it reveals a significant shift in how AI is impacting work.
Here’s the kicker:
👉 Senior devs ship 2.5x more AI code than juniors.
But zoom out, and it’s not just about code. The same dynamic is creeping into design. Seniors lean on AI as a multiplier. Juniors? More like referees, checking and second-guessing.
It’s a story about trust, craft, and whether the “speed” AI gives us is real or just a mirage.

Seniors Trust, Juniors Test
A third of senior developers say that over half of their shipped code is AI-generated. Among juniors? Just 13%.
Swap “code” with “Figma” and it holds up. Senior designers know when a layout looks right but breaks hierarchy. They can debug flows, catch subtle inconsistencies, and bend AI to their process.
Juniors? They’re more cautious redoing AI assumptions, pushing pixels AI couldn’t align, second-guessing prompts.
AI feels like autopilot. But if you don’t know how to land the plane, you’re not flying, you’re stalling.

Junior dev Vs Senior dev
The Speed Illusion
On paper, AI makes us faster. Autocomplete for code. Auto-layout for design.
But dig deeper:
Nearly 1 in 3 devs spend so much time fixing AI output, it kills the time savings.
Designers feel it too: “instant” wireframes that still need hours of tweaking, polishing, and reflow.
In one study, AI coding tools even slowed devs down by 19%.
Momentum ≠ velocity.
The real drag isn’t typing, it’s context-switching, debugging, and rethinking.

The Enjoyment Factor
The twist: 80% of devs say AI makes work more fun.
Skip grunt work.
Hit dopamine from “design on demand.”
Get unstuck when blocked.
Fun ≠ efficiency. But in fields crushed by burnout and backlog, morale is a growth engine.

The enjoyment factor
Seniors are also more likely to factor in sustainability.
80% of senior devs think about energy use when writing code.
Designers? Seniors are already asking: how many unnecessary screens, assets, or AI renders are bloating our stack?
And nearly 2/3 of all devs know AI itself carries a serious carbon footprint.
The next frontier of AI-assisted craft might not be speed at all; it might be sustainable creativity.

The Takeaway
AI isn’t replacing builders.
It’s reshaping the skill gap.
Seniors leverage AI as a force multiplier.
Juniors risk becoming editors of bad AI guesses.
30 Minutes Can Save YouGreat design doesn’t happen alone. One session can save you 10+ design iterations later. |
Everyone’s shipping faster, but not always smarter.
The real unlock is using AI to design cleaner, code greener, and scale trust, not just speed.
